  • So many. Everything I love goes away. The first that comes to mind is Crescent brand au jus. It was the best out there, period.

The next is the bruschetta chicken ciabatta sandwich that Jack in the Box used to have. Amazing.

Uno candy bars are technically still around but impossible to find. I love those little bastards.

There are more but I can’t think of them. Do the myriad of products that changed their recipes thinking no one would notice count? I noticed. Sometimes the new thing is dead to me.

Also those old “fire” “rain” element drinks (sobe?) were unbelievably good. In fact sobe was so good in the 90s/00s but changed recipes and packaging so that stuff is bleh to me now.

Original Surge cola. They changed it for the relaunch and it never was quite right. I used to have one every day before [sport] practice in high school.

Oh! Trader Joe’s had this pepperjack quiche that was out of this world. Haven’t seen it in years. It was the only reason for me to go there.

Edit: this post made me hungry and sad

  • Sorry, no. I forgot because I am on a plan.

But Avenza has a free tier and I like it better honestly. Much nicer/easier to create interest points. You can use their basemap or make your own in Qgis if you have any GIS skills or use any PDF that has geo info embedded like a usgs topo map.

You can find any usgs topo map for free from usgs and load that into Avenza easily.

If you’re interested and this sounds like what you’re looking for I can dig up some links.

I had to switch to Esri Field Maps for work so I haven’t used Avenza since they implemented a ton of new features but I still have it on my phone because it’s a good app.

  • Hahaha you should see the outage map of Washington State.

What do I like to do? Nothing, I hate power outages.

What I typically do is I have a large stockpile of candles from an old MLM scheme. I light those and play on my phone if there’s Internet. We have multiple battery banks for these occasions.

If there’s no Internet I will read. Both ebooks and regular books because my attention will shift.

I also try to do something productive like study for something.

Most of all I pile like eleventy billion blankets on the bed because I’m so cold. The furry ones are poor space heaters.

When I was a kid we always played games. Like charades or something. My dad would light the camp stove and we’d entertain ourselves for the evening as a family. They were nice.

  • What causes skin cancer, UV radiation, can be higher on cloudy days. Dermatologists across the board recommend sunscreen every day.

But I agree some people don’t need to do anything except sunscreen and they’re fine. Some people choose to do extra even if they maybe don’t need it, for a variety of reasons. My whole point is that there’s no need to dunk on someone who chooses to take care of their skin in a different way than you need to. You don’t know what OP faces and you yourself said more products can be warranted if you have any problems like acne or whatever.

I acknowledge that your point is some people don’t need to do anything extra though I believe we disagree about the frequency of people who need more skin care products and who might benefit from a basic routine similar to OP’s. I think most would benefit and you think it’s not necessary for most people. We can genuinely agree to disagree without ragging on OP or people who have skincare routines in general.

  • What? OP’s routine is fairly minimal.

I agree with you about showering every day but you really should use at bare minimum a cleanser, a moisturizer, and sunscreen.

The first gets dirt and grime and the world off your face, the second replenishes the moisture in your skin, and the last protects your skin. Pretty simple.

Adding in an active like an AHA or tretinoin is only if you have problems (acne would be an example but there are other issues) or if you care about anti-aging.

Some people have like 20 step routines and more and I think THAT is excessive and sometimes can irritate skin more. I once when down the rabbit hole of too many products and had horrible rebound issues because of it.

I used to have bad acne until I found a routine similar to OPs and the right combination of skincare can dramatically improve your skin. For health reasons mostly but healthy skin looks better too.

I’m not trying to attack you, I just ask that you don’t knock it just because you’ve never tried it. Maybe you were genetically blessed to not need anything except water and bar soap. Lucky you! I’m envious , truly.

But some people need extra help or just like to pamper their skin. Taking special care of your hygiene isn’t something to dig on someone about, or say it’s not healthy when you’re not well versed in the world of skincare.

  • Morning - rinse with water, apply Kose sunscreen, maybe a mattefying primer if I don’t have time to wait for the sunscreen to sink in.

Evening- wash with Cetaphil cleanser and a microfiber cloth, maybe use a toner if I feel like it, purito calming moisturizer then a small amount of tretinoin. Maybe sometimes add in snail mucin if I’m extra dry.

Used to have bad hormonal cystic acne but some meds and tret have totally fixed it.
