100%. This is exactly why I switched my home server over to NixOS and would struggle to go back. I used to reinstall all the time but now there really isn’t any need to, since I can just look at my configuration.nix file and know everything that’s installed, running and configured on my system. You can use pixelfed with the same account, but to do this you will have to go onto your mastodon instance and follow a pixelfed accounts from there and they will appear in your Mastodon timeline. Here is a little explanation of the “log in with Mastodon” option.

Ahhh thank you, by the looks of the thread you linked it seems that there’s no way of doing it without manually copying database tables over. I did think that may be the case, so I’ll just migrate it the normal way then. Thanks for the help!

That does seem like a good option for my use case, interestingly they note that no matter what I switch to I should change the subdomain:

That doesn’t look promising for moving the account without migrating because then I couldn’t maintain my username.

Overall I think Alex handled this situation really well, listened to what people wanted and come to something that everyone’s fine with.

Oh yes oops! I’m not sure why I thought polybar ran on Wayland, I probably was thinking of yambar.

Not for polybar but you might like to look into SwayNotificationCenter, I use it as the notification daemon of my hyprland setup and it has all the previous notifications in a menu with a do-not-disturb mode. I use a keybind to open up the menu but you could add an icon to polybar that when clicked runs swaync-client -t to toggle the menu.
