  • This generally goes against security best practices as it can be used for attempted user enumeration. A better version would be “we’ll send you an email with your account status if this user exists” but obviously that results in a fair amount more complexity (and cost) to implement

In deep learning generally open source doesn’t include actual training or inference code. Rather it means they publish the model weights and parameters (necessary to run it locally/on your own hardware) and publish academic papers explaining how the model was trained. I’m sure Stallman disagrees but from the standpoint of deep learning research DeepSeek definitely qualifies as an “open source model”

Two Norwegians are actually like 14 different languages. I had a girlfriend from Trondheim, i had learned “nynorsk” while living in Sognogfjordane and had a much easier time understanding people in Aarhus where we lived vs her dialect.

99 in Berkeley right now. My house was built in like 1928 and since we rent obviously there’s been no energy efficient updating of insulation or anything like that since maybe the 60s. It’s like 94 inside right now. Sitting in front of multiple fans just blowing hot air at me this is the life y’all.

  • Eh? That article says nothing about their profit margins. Today they have something like $3.5B in ARR (not really, that’s annualized from their latest peak, in Feb they had like $2B ARR). Meanwhile they have operating costs over $7B. Meaning they are losing money hand over fist and not making a profit.

I’m not suggesting anything else, just that they are not profitable and personally I don’t see a road to profitability beyond subsidizing themselves with investment.

  • My wife and I also met on there. Like 99% match (which in hindsight is funny, our personality types and such are very different but quite complementary, however our core beliefs and interests are very similar). I had 2 kids from a previous girlfriend, she had 1 (which makes dating really hard in the SF bay area esp in your 20s, people here often dont have kids until their 40s). 11 years later we’ve been married for 5 and probably happier than ever.
