Utah. Other than the staff at a restaurant everyone was rude. I think a motel manager may have lied about not having rooms, at the very least he made it clear he didn’t like us.

If I’m understanding correctly, you’ve not been selling the customer the additional feature but they think you have been and now your boss wants you to actually start billing them for the feature that they mistakenly think they are getting already but without actually providing the feature to them? Assuming that is correct it really does sound like fraud. Generally you can’t knowingly sell something you aren’t capable of selling but still collect the money. Even if the victim mistakenly thinks they got what they paid for you are still defrauding them of the money. I’m not a lawyer but I think if you do this you may end up needing a lawyer. Is there anyone else in the company besides your boss that you could talk to about this? The more people know about what is going on the harder it will be for your boss to pull of whatever he is trying to pull off. If something like this was going on where I work I would be documenting everything and sharing it with whoever would look at it, starting with my bosses boss. I wouldn’t make any accusations though, just present the facts and express your concerns.
Every discussion I’ve had with someone who said this has led me to expect ignorance. I think its something people who don’t know much like to say because they think it sounds good.
One of the driving forces behind this phenomena is that business types value having that reoccurring revenue on the books more than “normal” revenue. If you have two companies with identical revenue but one of them gets it from customers locked in on a subscription, that company will be valued significantly higher. If you’re an exec or a big investor who owns a lot of stock in a company then you’re effectively incentivized to push the company towards that subscription based reoccurring revenue model because it will boost the stock price and make you richer.
Yes. Or if everyone paid the monthly bills late on purpose at the same time. They stay rich because money flows through us to them. Demonstrating the power to disrupt that flow is going to send a message. The challenge obviously is in building and organizing a mass movement capable of taking coherent and targeted actions like these. You need a lot of people participating to have an impact.
I would just keep it vague but honest. Everyone knows someone with a shit family or has one themselves, and you don’t owe anyone details. People will pick up the situation without you having to get into it and anyone worth being in a relationship with isn’t going to care how shitty your family is except to be angry at them on your behalf.
They want to pump up the number of new accounts and/or monthly active accounts by any means necessary now that the stock price depends on it.
Mountains exist.
A local BBS got internet service so I poked around with gopher and lynx. I remember it being slow, there was lots of waiting for things to load.

Looks like a bunch of incels being pathetic together. If that’s where you’re finding your masculinity you should probably rethink your entire life from the ground up because you took a wrong turn somewhere.
This is one of those valuable life lessons you hopefully only have to learn once. Trusting Samsung or your TV with internet access is never a good idea.
I work all day on the computer. Its been a long time since gaming took up the majority of my computer time.
I think the stagnation in graphics improvements, combined with the extreme costs of high end GPUs and the massive growth in the industry, is what changed the dynamic. Most gamers just don’t care about the high end like they used to and now its corporate BS that has a more direct impact on their gaming experience instead of better hardware.
I’m not sure yet. I’m waiting until my current sub is closer to renewal before I take any action, not counting the emails to the Proton Foundation expressing my disappointment.
It was completely shocking, I would expect him to be smart enough not to make statements like that but I guess it’s masks off now that their guy is in power.
It was discussed in real time across Lemmy with links to Mastodon and Reddit where the CEO and the official Proton account made various partisan statements that have destroyed Protons reputation. I didn’t save links but I’m sure you can dig them up easily enough.
The CEO of Proton recently came out as a right wing partisan who supports American neofascism. I would look elsewhere for email providers, Proton is not as trustworthy as they purport to be.
Utah is like another country to me.
