  • They always say shit like “at least I don’t hit her” or “at least I’m not an alcoholic” while missing that those qualities are a given.

I think it’s a form of narcissism where they can’t handle that their personality is shitty so they project it into the world. They have to use outlandish examples because they’re not such hot catches themselves.

  • It depends on the situation and level of time investment.

If it’s someone you just met and immediately didn’t vibe with I think it’s fine, no time invested

If you’ve been on a date with them it’s kinda expected to turn them down. Time has been invested, if it’s a no don’t let them waste time.

If you run into them regularly it’s a bad idea regardless because leaving them on perpetual read with no resolution creates tension.

  • No. As a rule basically anything you see here that the right is “panicking” about is a nothing burger to them.

It’s the same with their news feed, they get articles about how the left is “panicking” over shit nobody actually cares about.

More and more were hating fictionalized versions of each other and the ensuing culture war gives the 1% room to pave over our rights.

We’re to the point now where the “wft I love/hate X now” meme isn’t a joke. The culture war is fully driving people’s values, not ideology.

This is the main reason why people vote for trump, they want to win the culture war and don’t give a fuck about ideology.

Next time you see a headline or article ask yourself if you actually give a shit or if you’re being told to give a shit. You’ll be surprised how often it’s the latter.

95% of the memes here (like this one) here are just strawmen for culture war fodder.

  • I don’t really know about light and eyes, I just know that UV radiation is bad for you and I know that academic quality evidence for this is abundant.

It was easy to find multiple .edu and .gov sources that explicitly state that UV is harmful to your vision.

When people say things like “bright direct sunlight to the eyes” to me it reads as “touching grass is beneficial.”

You don’t need to look at or near the sun, there’s plenty of sunlight bouncing around on a sunny day. You also don’t need to expose yourself to UV so sunscreen is still a good idea.

  • I got perma’d a month ago for posting links to .edu domains showing proof that UV light damages your eyes.

Some guy was claiming “the CDC/FDA doesn’t know shit because I used to start into the sun to spite the people who told me not to.”

I got a redditcares and then a site wide shadowban.

    No action on the appeal.

I decided not to make another account and to try quitting the internet, when that failed I decided to go to Lemmy instead of reddit again.

When Lemmy gets shitty like that hopeful I’ll be ready to disconnect for good.
