I wrote a little script to browse Manpages: woman using fzf
to create such a browser. Just run woman
without arguments to see the full list.
I think you would need to change the variable sections='1,8,6,5,7'
, so it access only specific Manpages. In example 1
stands for executable programs or shell commands. More about the sections in the DESCRIPTION of the man command itself: man man
I see. To me using EndeavourOS is not bending over backwards, because it is not more difficult than using bare metal Archlinux. Just saying, because you say you don’t understand people doing that. I don’t do it. EndeavourOS makes it more easy and less headache to use Arch in my opinion. And from that perspective, it’s a win situation.
The title could mention Steam Deck, but not mentioning it makes better clickbait. Warning: This reply has some random thoughts about the system being or not being a game console.
I personally don’t like calling the Steam Deck a game console, but I get why it is seen as such. The reality is, it’s a PC in handheld form factor treated as a game console. I guess the one important distinction is, that developers can target the Steam Deck specifically, which makes it a game console like PC. The other handhelds or laptops based on PC technology aren’t consoles, even though the concept of the Deck existed before. That’s why I do not consider any specific PC configuration, such as Aya Neo or the other competitors a game console. Because developers do not target those specifically (and they lack an operating system dedicated being a console).
The reality is, the lines between game console and general computing devices get blurry, once you involve “real” PC hardware and operating systems suited for general operations. And the Steam Deck has both. It’s tricky. But I really like the fact that the Steam Deck can be targeted and optimized by developers and that Valve takes their time for an iteration of the “system”. What we were thinking of game consoles changes with this open platform. And the best thing is, the game library does not depend on this specific hardware; you are not bound to a specific company in example, not even a specific shop or library.
Valve entering the game console market with a Linux based system is probably one of the most important steps in videogame history. I suspect this will have bigger impact in the future than most people imagine now. At least I hope so…
I am a Vim user and TUI fan. It does not make any difference in my experience to use a fast GPU based terminal. Maybe something like st might startup faster, but that’s it.
I used a number of terminals in the last decade and even 2 GPU accelerated ones, Kitty and Alacritty for about 2 years or so. Now I’m back on Konsole. I never saw a difference in their speed, because the terminal speed doesn’t matter. Maybe there are edge cases, that’s not something I discount. But for writing code or editing text files, or listing files with the shell, I never saw a difference or advancement for having a faster terminal.
However, where they differ greatly is in their customization, feature set and what dependencies they have.
What do you mean by “bend over backwards”?
I’m a non hopper guy. In 2008 wiped out Windows XP to switch fulltime to Ubuntu. Never hopped to any other distro until 13 years later in 2021 to Manjaro (based on Arch, but with changes and updates come in waves). Used it 1.5 years and was not happy and switched to EndeavourOS (closely based on Arch) and still use it, even after a new installation on a new machine. I thought about switching the distro, but it works so good and well and has what I need. NixOS was on my radar, but ultimately it would be too much of an experiment, change and needed time to learn. The uncertainty what to expect made me stay with what I know, as there was no reason for a change in my case.
The reason why I don’t change too often the system is probably because I inform myself and know what to expect. Therefore the thing I chose is probably exactly what I want.

@Chozo The end of the video:
But Dbrand did offer
… is basically advertisement for the brand, packed into “a joke”. Why would they mention it otherwise?
@peter I’m not actually sure if this is a privacy win at all. I use Google for years with disabled history (and other stuff disabled) and this new change does not make any difference to my privacy. At the moment, still, the home feed recommendations is mostly about videos from my subscriptions, past videos and the newest one. All it does is take away that view, which does not improve privacy. What actually improves privacy is to disable the history, which you could do since years.
Edit: I totally forgot the link I wanted to provide: https://myaccount.google.com/u/0/yourdata/youtube
@abhibeckert I have those from Eneloop. They do not discharge that fast as the old generation of rechargeable batteries. Yes they do, but the rate is quiet slow.
@SubArcticTundra Also add XBox game controllers to the list. I have multiple pair of rechargeable batteries. It’s way better than having integrated batteries like in the PS controllers. I can just swap the set out for a full set, right away. Doing this since Xbox 360.
@Greenpepper I actually appreciate how Musk ruined Twitter. I was never fan of that service anyway. That means alternatives have a chance to grow. :-) Thank you Elon.
@shnizmuffin For those who know less/more, original name was General Image Manipulation Program, before it got renamed.
@donuts I recently had a short conversation with someone from mastodon.art. They denied the GIMP devs an account on their server, because GIMP is a slur word. And they made a public announcement of this fact. Looks like the moderation/administration people are assholes, if they act and communicate like that. This community is new to me and all I know is about this GIMP announcement and this new drama.
@muddybulldog Apple provides a number of 85% of developers not paying commission and defends the price is not high. On the other hand I believe the price is high and therefore less people will pay. It’s a simple math; make it cheaper, and more developers are willing to pay. Otherwise it probably doesn’t make financial sense.
