I guess they have reasons not to pay drivers properly. Give Uber a free pass for it too

What’s stopping AI companies from paying royalties to artists they ripped off?
Also, lol at accounts created within few hours just to reply in this thread.
The moment their works are the one that got stolen by big companies and driven out of business, watch their tune change.
Edit: I remember when Reddit did that shitshow, and all the sudden a lot of sock / bot accounts appeared. I wasn’t expecting it to happen here, but I guess election cycle is near.
Try to train a human comedian to make jokes without ever allowing him to hear another comedian’s jokes, never watching a movie, never reading a book or magazine, never watching a TV show. I expect the jokes would be pretty weak.
nope, “The dog is cooking a dinner” is that kind of absurdist sentence that works. So that I just don’t guess a human on the subject position. Or ‘eating’ for the verb
I’ve seen quality drops of Duolingo, ever since their … IPO, sadly.
Anyway, here’s some ways you can milk the rest of the Duolingo before completely abandoning it.
I sadly still don’t know what other comparable free alternatives to Duolingo. Anki is great, but it’s largely flashcard for words, not sentences (unless you want to create your own deck). The others require subscription fee.
Other methods? Search for pdf of language grammar files, there are a lot out there. Some are godawful to read, especially those ‘Comprehensive Grammar Guide’ books. Some are amazing, e.g. Tae Kim’s Guide to Japanese.
Yeah, this is frustrating.
I can handle absurd sentences like “The dog is cooking the dinner”, and actually finds them beneficial because it prevents me from guessing the whole sentence.
But this is a sign that not enough human efforts are poured into create permutation of the answers.
I remember Mirai botnet that scanned for default password on IoT cameras.
They could definitely become a weak link.
I think Google support team might have started to see the pattern, getting feedback that they are starting to take action against them.
I remember when Joe Rogan was getting giant paycheck from Spotify promoting antivax stuff, and people talked about moving to Apple Music, but it feels like many just stuck with Spotify.
I came across a post on instagram that says that Al Yankovic’s 80 million stream on playlist only netted him enough money to buy a sandwich.
Also, Spotify underpaying artists, making fake playlists with cover artists to undermine artists, are not new. It feels like the mainstream crowd just doesn’t care, which pushes me further into depression.
After 8 years of daily tweeting one of the loudest, most candid voices coming out of China has been deplatformed- absolutely no one gives a shit. I could be dead in a ditch- but we aren’t actually people, we’re just signs for people like you in the West to wave at each other in their ideological war. –Naomi Wu
Sadly this is what I’ve been feeling nowadays.
Nope, (very often) it’s more like a community service, a passion project, a group project. The main thing is the source is open. Sometimes it’s not funded, sometimes there’s government funding, sometimes there’s patreon, sometimes there’s special commercial license but free for personal use, etc.
It’s just the source that’s open.
Crunch time at game development, that’s probably akin to slave labor.
Edit: Yeah, what’s the terms and agreements about the AI stuff on Github? It’s still less of a slave labor, but more like straight up stealing / plagiarizing other people’s stuff. I say it’s still less of a indentured servitude, mainly because devs can just move their repository to say Gitlab. It’s still shitty that it’s being used for AI stuff (I need to start committing awful buggy code, or just straight up uploading recipes but written under .js format)

I’ve never used ChatGPT, so I don’t know if there’s an offline version. So I assume everything that you typed in, is in turn used to train the model. Thus, using it will probably leak sensitive information.
Also from what I read is that, the replies are convincing enough, but could sometimes be very wrong, thus if you’re using it for machineries, medical stuff, etc, it could end up fatal.
it’s a library / command line software to download youtube videos.
There’s more information here
Basically install the tool, and run yt-dlp [put your youtube links here without the bracket]
to download the video.
I haven’t directly used the official command line for years though, so you might want to read the documentations.
And that’s because, I wrote my own terminal-ui using their python API, for personal usage and requirements (you need to know at least some python or knowledge using the terminal to use it)
It’s hard, I’ve been trying to use peertube, but it’s still kinda lacking. Most creators are still sticking with YT
On the other hand, I download youtube videos I want to watch using yt-dlp. That’s been working well for me for the past 5 years or so.
Is this César do Paço’s wiki entry?
Apparently he donated ten of thousands euro to Portugal’s right wing populist party Chega, and he really wanted to wipe that information out of existence
On 11 January 2021, Portuguese news channel SIC Notícias broadcast a story asserting that DePaço had donated over ten thousand euros to Portugal’s Chega party, and highlighted connections of several of its leaders to the DePaço Foundation.[23][24][25] This was controversial in Cape Verde due to Chega’s opposition to immigration.[26][27] The day after the SIC story was aired, Cape Verdean Foreign Minister, who had recently appointed DePaço as Honorary Consul of Cape Verde to Florida, resigned.[28][29] DePaço was subsequently dismissed,[30] At the time he was appointed, Cape Verde already had a consul in Florida.[31]
Also I just found out that Barbara Streisand’s first name is spelled Barbra
The one-column layout of Firefish is good, it has tons more features than Mastodon
But the multi-column deck layout that I always use, it’s kinda borked thus infuriating to use. Probably needs more time for the deck layout.
Indeed, Prince Andrew is still roaming around Pizza Express in Woking.
I’m expecting this weakening of encryption / surveillance is to protect rich people by preemptively punishing dissidents who are organizing against them. It’s the step that authoritarian countries like China, Saudi, etc have been using against their own people, either with sweeping regulations, or just straight up buying pegasus spyware.
I think some of the problematic instances have been defederated, IIRC there’s a large japanese instance that was defederated long time ago due to child abuse content. But still since I’ve been seeing increases of hate speech and dog whistling misogyny and homophobia in some instances, I won’t be surprised if CSAM stuff has been trading under our noses.
The main issue is that, with so many users nowadays and small moderation teams, especially in the larger instances, it’s hard to moderate and tackle CSAM problems effectively. I really wish larger instances would limit user registrations or start splitting off into smaller manageable ones.
Also, since they are trading using certain hashtags, blocking those hashtags might not be a bad idea.
I do, especially when someone’s profiting from it, while my license is strictly for non commercial.
