  • “Kernel maintainer steps down” - and here I thought the dude fiercely opposed to Rust, that dinosaur vowing to fight with all his might against… a project he wouldn’t have a single line of code to maintain, ever, was the one to resign.

Instead we lost “Marcan”, Hector Martin, the lead of the Asahi Linux project, following an intervention in the drama-thread by none other than Torvalds himself, who rather than arbitrating or defusing the situation, added to it by scolding Martin with “you are the problem”.

Marcan also deleted his Mastodon account ; I am not quite sure what impact this will do on the Asahi Linux project, but fuck me sideways this all reads like unsupervised five years olds bickering in the schoolyard.

  • France is 2 days away from an election which will see the Far Right grab the most seats ever in Parliament, the only question (hope really) is “will they get absolute majority or not”.

Holland fell not so long ago.

Belgium kinda holds through “sacred union” that vows to never sign an alliance with it, but at cities level it’s too late.

And Hungary is deep into it with Orban since a while now. Hungary which turn it is to lead the European Parliament (a rotating position). First political act? Go shake hands with Putin.

It’s gonna get complicated over here.

  • We just got 3 LG tv’s at work for an art exhibition. There’s no network available here (it’s a Napoleonic Fortress lol), and while they ask for it, dismissing all accounts/updates/online services is straightforward. You can delete all pre-installed apps (disney, netflix whatever) but LGtv and amazon. I can dig the model number tomorrow if you want.

    OTOH I haven’t owned a tv since 2001.

  • Apple supposedly makes good hardware, and my ‘23 mbp in 14’ has excellent battery, great trackpad, very good sound and a beast of a screen. Now I don’t like whatever material these machines are made of, they are downright unpleasant to grab or touch, and the keyboard is abismal shit. I hate it, I am seriously not using it as much as I could not because Asahi, or Fedora, or bugs, or the availability of certain software for Arm64, but because of that shit keyboard. Asahi runs great, the full Pipewire sound stack developed for it is a pleasure to work on. Switch monitoring every which way, plug Firefox into Ardour and rip youtube, it all works, period.

To me M2 with 16g of ram is about on par with an intel i12 in everyday life. Sure it will win on rendering movies or some specific stuff, but day-to-day it’s like my friend’ Carbon X1 on Mint really.
