I wish it wouldn’t be that complicated just to sit. I’m a short man (5’6") and it’s impossible to sit correctly in most office chairs, as the seats are simply too big. My knees can’t bend if my back is against the backrest.

Also they are often too tall and my feet don’t touch the ground, so I need a foot stool.

Even fucking desks are too high.

So I have a chair that’s too big and too high, and a desk that’s also too high when I’m sitting.

I hate that the world is standardized around an average. Finding an appropriate desk or chair for smaller people, at an affordable price, is a pretty good challenge.

Or when you try to use contactless only to be asked the amount of tip to give to the cashier, before being able to pay.

I have a bike that gets scratched up every time I lock it to a bike rack and meanwhile people buying expensive work trucks are melting down if there is a scratch on their WORK truck.

Hah. I live alone, no kids, no house, no car. And I am usually fine with that.

I live in a tower in the downtown of a big city and have a very nice view. I share a pool, a terrasse and gym on the roof. No need to maintain the pool, the concierge does that. No driveway to plow in winter, no grass to cut in summer. No house maintenance.

I have free time and disposable income. I can travel anywhere I want, pretty much when I want it. I’m on my second trip in the Carribean since the beginning of the year.

In summer I take multiple days to cycle for hundreds of kilometres to go camping/hiking in national parks and explore the great bike network of my region. I live on an island, pull my kayak with my bike and explore the waters around whenever I feel like it.

Seeing my friends with kids not being able to get a free weekend once every few months, I don’t mind how things have turned out for me.

From what I have seen when she orders doordash, it’s also a hassle to get something fixed (because it happens often), and half the people will not eat at the same time than others, because the order is half wrong and they will deliver the rest, eventually.

I guess if you’re always ordering alone it’s not a big issue, but she’s always ordering multiple meals and I can’t recall one time where it all went smoothly. There is always something wrong that has to be fixed, gotta contact them, get it fixed, it takes time and not everyone has their food at the same time.

From my perspective, it just sucks to order for a group with doordash. It would be better to just have one or a few people of the group to go get the food directly at the restaurant.

I really can’t understand people that live in a city with restaurants close to them, and still being unable to get off their ass and walk/cycle/drive to get their food.

The only time I order food directly from restaurants is when I’m in the countryside or a rural area with friends or family, and the to and fro time would be unacceptably long if I’d go grab it myself.

As someone that lived on dial-up, the format and size of an image will absolutely not slow down a gigabit connection.

My sister uses doordash and there’s always something wrong. Yet she insists on trying again and again, and I can’t understand why.

I have never used them or Uber or others like this, and refuse to do so. They exploit their workers, they charge exorbitant fees, and when something’s wrong, it’s nobody’s fault.

If I want food, I go get it myself. I’m my own delivery boy! And contrary to a lot of people delivering food, I will not park on a sidewalk or in a bike lane.

Lately, Firefox + uBlock Origin and YouTube on Linux is sometimes horribly slow for me. It uses all the CPU and chokes my computers. Sometimes it’s even difficult to just seek in the video, as it’s so sluggish.

It seems to vary depending on the type of ads. It’s not “random” because a video that has this behavior will always do it, even if I restart FF, while others will be fine.

I thought it was my old computer at first, or that I was out of memory, but the same thing happens on my modern Ryzen.

Although I notice it less and less, so maybe it was a bug with YT + uBlock.

And it’s only on my Linux computers. On Android, FF + uBlock works super well.

My pet peeve about ads everywhere now is on Android.

Your Android phone doesn’t come with a voice recorder? Download one, with ads every time you record.

You want a different calculator? Ads!

Flashlight app? Ads!

Notepad? Ads!

And people just apparently accept ads in nearly every app, even the most basic ones.

I don’t remember the Sound Recorder, or Notepad having ads. But because people are now used to ads everywhere, it’s certainly coming as MS is trying to jam ads in everywhere possible in Windows too, now.

I’m so grateful for Linux. The apps I get through apt-get don’t make me watch ads. Unfortunately even if based on Linux, the Android world is so infuriatingly crammed with ads.

I wish I could find a “phone” or portable device in that format, with an OS that works like “true” Linux.

I’m from a previous generation so for me it was my parents buying me Leisure Suit Larry 7 for Christmas.

I was kind of expecting it. The question is “What car do you drive?” and not “If you have a car, what’s the one you’re driving?” because it’s to be expected that everyone has or wants a car. So those without cars are not being asked, and saying you don’t have one is “not the question”. Worse if you don’t like them. I’d bet that saying I don’t have one but wish I had a specific one would have gained more sympathy.

As a North American that doesn’t like cars, I’m just used to that type of reaction. A car is status and prestige. A car defines who you are. If you don’t have a car, you’re not normal.

None. I don’t have one and do not want one. They are a blight. I want them gone.

Yep. He could have been driving an F-150, bump over the sidewalk, drive over the CEO, then said “ooh, sorry, I didn’t see him, he must have been wearing headphones or something”, and it would probably have been a valid defensible position for the system.

I do that too but only because it’s much easier to help my relatives with Linux than those with Windows.

I even “convert” some people because Llinux is easier for them if I just manage it. I had a neighbor that was using Window on a very old computer, it was slow and choking under the weight of simple updates. Plus, she was always asking me why her computer kept rebooting by itself while it was obviously Windows update. So I installed Mint and all the problems went away.

Anyway I don’t want to have to deal with Microsoft accounts, licenses, office365, the general bloat, the ads, the new versions of Windows… I have enough at work, so if I am going to help on my free time, it has to be on the OS I find easier to deal with.

I don’t really have a choice as heat is provided by my building, and they just keep it on at all times. So in winter it’s pretty much always around 26/27C except when it gets really cold outside and it “drops” a bit. I do like the heat but it’s a bit too much. Sometimes I have to open a window. 24C would suffice.

They even keep the heat on in summer so it can rise up to 35C during sunny days, but I have a portable AC to fight the building’s system and bring it back down to a “cool” 24/25C.
