I’ve noticed pretty much zero disruption on Firefox with uBlock Origin and SponsorBlock despite Google’s best efforts. Every time I thought I’d eventually be paying Google the Danegeld to avoid the firehose of spam I’ve been pleasantly surprised.
Sailor, software engineer, musician, terminally online.
I miss the pre-adtech internet.

It depends on the artistic and technological intent I think. Valve (tube) amplifiers are inferior to any modern amplifier in every way you could actually measure with an oscilloscope yet people still build them and valves are still produced they same way they were in the 1950s because the imperfections they produce in the sound can sound pleasant, which is down to psychoacoustic factors which have subjective as well as objective components. A photo that looks exactly like what we’d see naturally is one potential goal but it’s not the only one in my opinion.
Can confirm, I write Scala at my current workplace and spend my days over the moon about the fact I’m not writing Java.
‘A big table lookup’ isn’t what’s going on here, go and look up what backpropagation and gradient descent are if you want to know what’s actually happening.
Yeah the Tories in the UK which were once the mainstream right are now sucking deeply on the crack pipe of Republican culture wars because after thirteen years in power it’s all they have left.
If someone is lobbying for climate change denial then they’re guilty of something morally akin to treason, but it’s not treason itself because instead of just betraying just their country they’re betraying their entire species.
As an Englishman I feel it’s my calling to smuggle cheddar and Wensleydale into Normandy.
Twitter’s effect on politics at least in the UK has been pretty negative in my opinion, it drives journalists towards short-form hot takes rather than journalism.
Yeah even when I was chronically broke and a smoker I was usually able to scrimp enough together for a pouch of Amber Leaf. Rolling your own means you can roll skinnier ones too if necessary.

Your skin actually has quite a lot of resistance especially compared to a copper wire, while it’s definitely bad news for a current to be flowing through your nerves it would need to get there first. Current doesn’t really ‘choose’ a particular path either; if you have a potential difference V between two points the current will take all paths available between them and Ohm’s law I = V/R tells us that the current will be greatest through the path with the least resistance. The reason you don’t get a shock when you touch a properly insulated wire is that the path that includes your finger also includes the resistance R of the insulation which is very high so correspondingly I is very low.

Yeah unfortunately for MI5 the reintroduction of red kites across much of the UK has rendered them less effective with attacks being common. They also mostly use the BBC Radio 4 longwave transmitter to navigate and that’s being shut down next year along with the rest of the BBC’s AM output so they’re developing an alternative called SEAGULL: Self-Extracting Audio Guided by Ultra-Light Links where residential and commercial WiFi networks are hijacked to guide the mechanical avians instead of the centralised transmitter system. This system has its detractors however and occasionally they’ve locked onto train WiFi and immediately failed.
They were originally going to use mechanical geese for this task but political interference meant that seagulls were used instead so that the rapid decline of the fish and chip industry isn’t blamed on Tory economic policy. Unfortunately people are rightly suspicious of seagulls and this has thus far limited the success of operation SEAGULL. The authorities are hoping that operation ‘drop several hundred kilograms of LSD into a reservoir on the basis it’s not even the worst pollution Thames Water are up to that day’ will improve matters.
[Rolling Stones intensify]
I totally agree with the light situation but in the opposite direction, I love being able to keep my work space lit gently when it’s dark in the evenings rather than the ultra-cool mini-stars of blinding revelation most offices like to install for lights.
I like the Longest Johns who wrote a song called Moby Duck, and I also like Radio Caroline a group of old-school offshore pirate radio enthusiasts set to be the last British radio station left on AM pretty soon, they broadcast on 648 kHz.
Yeah I can do frontend stuff in a pinch and it’ll mostly work but I wouldn’t call myself a full-stack developer because I’d be taking the piss out of people actually doing frontend properly.
A good flag for the subject of Zuckerberg then!
They’re trying to praise the Machine God, little do they know the Omnissiah considers abominable intelligence a deadly sin.
