Family story time: my family is full of academically minded people (three of my grandparents worked as Latin teachers), with varying levels of snobbery and reasonableness. One of the first times my dad went to my maternal grandparents house for dinner, someone said “margarine,” pronouncing it with a hard g. My father asked why, and my grandfather explained that there’s no soft g followed by an a in English.
My father accepted this, and looking to change the subject, asked if my grandparents could offer any help analyzing “The Ballad of Reading Gaol.”

What a horrifying name, when viewed as a compound word. Thankfully, it seems to be a germanicization of palačinka.
My family always said happy, but we also say Gesundheit, so who knows
Shelled and unshelled mean the same thing, same with pitted and unpitted
It could easily be in a residential or industrial area
What’s the meaning of the adjective for hallucinations?
I’d want an excellent vegan copycat of my dad’s turkey meatloaf with mashed potatoes, corn spoon bread, and Brussels sprouts, but I would want to keep the meatloaf to have the most incredible sandwich the next day: a half size (20cm/8in long) ciabatta loaf, half of it spread with stone ground mustard (optional sharp cheddar sliced over the mustard side), then toasted, with slices of meatloaf browned and then assembled into a sandwich. Baby spinach optional.
