Do you mind sharing what your ideal society looks like? I think a lot of folks share common ideas but have vastly different labels for them.

I’ll go ahead:

I personally want to work. It can be fun. I want to do things I’m actually good at. I want to be able to afford food and housing. I want to know that i wont starve if I become sick or disabled. I want to be able to survive when I’m too old to work regularly. I want my family to be safe no matter what.

I think those are pretty understandable goals. I want to live in a world where this applies to as many people as possible.

Let’s talk about this in a little more detail.

What do you consider going off the deep end? What do you consider leftist? Which ideas do you consider idiocy? What is your idea of a society worth living in?

I personally am open to any ideas that exclude discrimination of identity. For me the tolerance paradoxon applies.

The point is moot. Social media is like a bar. Every bar has politics at some point. Its always been about frequenting the places you find endearing. Make a community that does not allow mention of politics, hell a whole instance. Block the words, defederate with anyone else. That should do it.

Sorry for butting in but I’m helping people ATM and here is what we do:

• organize protests and strikes
• share information on non Nazi controlled platforms
• participate in any defiance and protest you can and know of
• help neighbors that suffer from the current situation by any means you deem safe
• build knowledge bases and plan
• call out Nazi collaborators
• strengthen ties between local communities

Of course this will not reverse the current situation immediately but I think we all agree that reversing what has been in the making for 30 years will take time. It will also facilitate anything that might come after, even if that is violence.

I would probably just rent an instance if I was a mod or creator and just host my community there. I think its understandable that federated admins are much more cautious due to the well known tactic of shooting a „politically foreign“ instance down for other - easier to prove and get away with - reasons.

I host my own instance and its not a huge project in itself but I would never host any community for someone else that even has the remote chance of getting me in hot water, legally. Especially because of my vocal political leaning. I‘m perfectly able to get myself into hot water.

Its as if the linux hardliners were right all along. Almost as if people laughing about our cautionary tales stand there holding the bag now.

Btw I was trained by a psychologist (a guy paid by the car company, who is a licensed therapist and has a licensed practice) to manipulate people into buying cars. 1. lemmy as a whole does not have permabans or ip bans. Individual servers do. It is statistically unlikely you will be permabanned from lemmy.world let alone all of lemmy. Yet you can get banned by most communities over and over if you keep spitting nonsense that disagrees with their rules.
2. bigotry and authoritarianism are never okay. It is scientific fact that fascists are wrong. No need for mental gymnastics. Diversity is healthy for any group, period.
