Plugins in browsers have been a crucial function for years and available on Android. The only reason they’re not on iOS is because Apple forces all browsers to use WebKit instead of Gecko/Blink/etc, like they do everywhere else.

I am more excited that Apple is being forced to allow other browser engines on iOS.

In 2024 I should not be forced to browse ad riddled websites that risk seizures upon loading, and further redirecting you to more shit when you try to close it, on a $1000 handheld computer.

Give us a browser engine that supports proper extensions, not this shit that is as old as the original iPhone!

This is why I refuse to use any download buttons on websites for FOSS apps; if it’s FOSS, it has a link to the source, which has releases, and is the safest way to ensure you’re getting what you actually want.

thanks for the tips! I am running a Ryzen 9 5950X, so it definitely needs a standalone GPU. I am going to be getting a 1070 off the kids’ computer once I upgrade them later this year, so I think I’ll just stick that into it.

Would really like to get the seamless transcoding to work so the whole family can use it without hiccups.

Very much agree on all these points; I just wish I could get the transcoding to actually work.

Very well said. 100% agree - my projects are hobbies that allow me to contribute back for the many OSS I use, with the added bonus of helping me learn/retain knowledge of languages.

The argument so far seems to be:

• it’s not about the fact that they collect the data, but for whom it may be collected.
• their algorithms of feeding content to consumers can be heavily influenced by non-US political entities.

That being said, I’m all for the TikTok ban, along with all the other social media platforms that have been proven to have negative impacts on the mental and physical health of our society (esp. with how much of it focused on kids).

With each year we spend less and less on the education of our children, while corporations exploit them and force feed junk into heads. Reduce their access to the shit stream, put in effort into their education instead of undercutting it, and we may actually have a chance at a bright future.

The question I find myself asking with new browsers is, if they are truly not gathering and selling your data, then how are they getting/planning to get money? Especially if this is not FOSS

I’ve had to create GP edits to prevent it from happening because it most certainly does.

Even then MS is fantastic at throwing up MFA reauthentication mid meeting or forgetting to throw it up at all and leaving you shadow logged into Outlook/Teams where it will appear functional from your side, but you will it receive anything until you close and reopen the apps.

They’ve had these issues for years and never prioritize fixing them.
