Also, I game on Linux more than I do on windows (though I do have a partition in my drive to run windows for games I couldn’t get working on steam OS/ Bazzite. It’s literally 4 games out of over 100.

My biggest problems with Teams are system slowdown (this was a big issue before I got my new work laptop), and different versions of Teams launching at startup (personal as default and then you have to choose professional or whatever and wait for it to reload everything). Back during the pandemic I had two different Teams (one for my reserve component, and one for my regular job) and it was a nightmare.
Not everything has to have a direct correlation to what you say in order to be valid or add to the conversation. You have a habit of ignoring parts of the conversation going around you in order to feel justified in whatever statements you make regardless of whether or not they are based in fact or speak to the conversation you’re responding to and you are also doing the exact same thing to me that you’re upset about (because why else would you go to a whole other post to “prove a point” about downvoting?). I’m not going to even try to justify to you what I said in this post or that one because I honestly don’t think you care.

All in all, I said what I said. We will not get the benefits of Generative AI if we don’t 1. deal with the problems that are coming from it, and 2. Stop trying to shoehorn it into everything. And that’s the discussion that’s happening here.
lol. I was just saying in another comment that lemmy users 1. Assume a level of knowledge of the person they are talking to or interacting with that may or may not be present in reality, and 2. Are often intentionally mean to the people they respond to so much so that they seem to take offense on purpose to even the most innocuous of comments, and here you are, downvoting my valid point, which is that regardless of whether we view it as a reliable information source, that’s what it is being marketed as and results like this harm both the population using it, and the people who have found good uses for it. And no, I don’t actually agree that it’s good for creative processes as assistance tools and a lot of that has to do with how you view the creative process and how I view it differently. Any other tool at the very least has a known quantity of what went into it and Generative AI does not have that benefit and therefore is problematic.

Several years back now, one of my colleagues was very much into the genealogy thing. She had major problems I think with needing to find herself or where she fit in or whatever. She was very much pushing me to try one of the DNA genealogy testing services and I had to be very firm about not wanting to participate in it.
This is why. My sense of self has never been in question and I don’t need to attribute who or what I am to some people I’ve never met or culture I haven’t participated in or been a part of. I have been considered “other” my whole life by in groups who only wanted me to identify with the bits and pieces of my culture or personality that they approved of and I pretty much had to get over that at a young age in order to not feel inadequate or content with myself.
As a result these always seemed like services that over promise and under deliver and they ask for way more privileged information than I am comfortable with giving away to anyone (I was skeptical when my doctor wanted me to participate in cancer screening via DNA testing because the only angle I could see for wanting it that would be profitable to an insurance firm was to deny me coverage later). Every time something hits the media about a leak or mismanagement of customer data, I am vindicated in my belief that it’s not worth the price of admission.
Every dealer pretty much uses third party body shops. But this doesn’t require a body shop. It’ll more than likely be performed by a Tesla automotive technician at a Tesla service center when parts become available.
Ford has a very similar recall on their Ford Explorers. There is a trim piece on the A-pillar exterior that becomes detached and can fly off. But there’s is plastic because they aren’t complete morons. Either way, they’re talking about better glue and one piece of attachment hardware. That’s well within the capabilities of an automotive technician.
Tesla is different. They don’t have franchises. They haven’t granted them anywhere. They run what’s called a Direct to Consumer Business Model. That means they own and operate their own service centers and Galleries/Showrooms. That means it’s just Tesla Motors operating everything and carrying the insurance etc.
I have questions about what auto shops you think are doing recalls because it’s only Tesla’s service centers are going to be legally allowed to perform the recall (that’s how it works for every automaker). So it’s the same place they’re already going to protest (in most cases) and the same insurance. Regardless, the recall isn’t an “insurance thing per se” because Tesla the company is the insurance in this case. They will be footing to bill for any and all repairs done under recall. And more than likely the recalled vehicles won’t be sitting around the shop or lot waiting for parts because it’s up to consumers who will absolutely take their vehicle and leave if parts aren’t in stock.
Or they just didn’t know how. Which is a distinct possibility. Some devices these days even let you share the Wi-Fi password through QR code or similar. So you don’t have to enter it until every device.
I don’t understand why they’re considering a ban. People should be changing the default password on their router. If they aren’t and they leak information that isn’t theirs, tough shit, fine them. If they leak their own information, let them deal with the consequences.

The point is that while there are definitely downsides, there are also fairly painless ways to use fingerprint blocking on reputable browsers, and that it doesn’t “break half the internet” it just might have a slight learning curve. Just because something isn’t just plug it in and forget doesn’t mean it doesn’t work or isn’t accessible.
