I think it just shows all the hideousness of humanity and all it’s glory in a way that we have never confronted before. It’s shatters the illusion the humanity has grown from its barbaric ways.

Coming from the party that came up with the family separation shit and is sending ice agents into schools to grab migrant children. Yeah the Republican’s definitely seem to be a party of empathy. I wouldn’t throw stones while living in glass houses.

Right I forgot about that. That’s also a thing with Mastodon. I think in decentralized Services need to push that there are each other so it doesn’t matter which one that you end up going with. That’s at least what drove me to get on let me in the first place cuz I know that whatever instance I would get on would allow me to participate with everybody else the same way you and me are on different instances right now.

I mean a large problem with services like Lemmy Mastodon and peer tube is that they’re complicated. There’s a learning curve require that I don’t have to have if I go to a place like YouTube or any other video site. Peertube requires me to learn about servers and other things in order to fully utilize their service and that’s a massive barrier to the public. Currently it’s preventing me because I just frankly don’t have time to go learn about more technological Concepts to best use a service.

Don’t get me wrong it’s not a dig at the services. They are excellent and I’m glad they’re here and one day I will figure out peertube but until these sites are as easy to use as going to a link and just doing whatever the person wants to do if they’re just not going to take off. Places like limmy and Mastodon and even peertube need a centralized portal so that is just super easy to start.

Theoretically that could work but sometimes security measures require computers be BitLocker encrypted and certain softwares could make this difficult to achieve like fixing a domain controller.

I mean yeah I know most pirates won’t use Google and will use other search engines but the majority of people using the internet don’t even know that there are other search engines to use. Keeping them off Google is effective at preventing them from reaching other people.

It’s going to be a grind. This is causing blue screen of death on Windows machines which can only be rectified if you have physical/console access.

In the cloud space if this is happening to you I think you’re screwed. I mean theoretically there’s a way to do it by installing Windows unmounting the disc from the virtual machine to another working virtual machine but it’s a freaking bear.

Basically everyone’s going to have to grind this whole thing out to fix this problem. There’s not going to be an easy way to use automation unless they have a way to destroy and recreate all their computers.

I live in linuxland and it’s been really fun watching this from the side. I really feel for this admins having to deal with this right now because it’s going to just suck.

I mean not technically… those products use a separent kernel that has its own development path away from the Linux kernel. Linux is just a compatible Unix kernel but I wouldn’t classify it as a Unix operating system since it diverges into its own thing. Android still uses the Linux kernel not some piece of code that they developed and not some commercial Unix product

I thought you could just use the Android open source project? I thought the tracking was mostly baked into Google’s flavor of Android not the open source product

Interest of avoiding Google’s ad platform which is arguably more invasive you should use a browser in search engine that is not developed by Google thus use duck duck go. I mean it’s at least tangentially related.

Duck duck go has become a pretty good viable alternative to google using it full time now.

In theory malicious android apps. In practice they create locked ecosystems that are hard for anyone to break in. No one wants another apple model.

This just feels like fear mongering. Oh no Google says it can’t protect us anymore. Whatever shall we do?

I mean having money and connections to cut through red tape is helpful even if it’s only from his privileged life.

I don’t mean to rag on you dude but I don’t think he started that many companies. His company was bought out by PayPal in like the late '90s, despite being listed as a cofounder he wasn’t a founder of Tesla, I think spaceX was also founded before Musk. He did help these companies succeed though so I suppose credit for that.
