It’s such a dumb name, that it makes me genuinely furious there there are people out there who have lied and impostered their way into positions where they can make such decisions, while having absolutely no clue at all what they’re even doing in the building.

Apple intelligence makes sense, because the abbreviation is AI. Pretty smart and simple if you think about it.

But Copilot is the kind of name Apple would choose for its product. Things like centre stage, launchpad, facetime… They’re all very descriptive and cool sounding names of their software products. Copilot is a great name that they’re throwing away along with Cortana because their crappy practices are crappy.

Can you imagine your own mind having unskippable ads?

Can you imagine buying products you don’t want because you’re suddenly compelled to do so and you have no idea why.

Neuralink is going to be hell, purely because the person in charge of it is Elon Musk.

While the developer doesn’t accept donations, they do encourage donating to the people maintaining the block lists. I’ve contributed in the past and would happily keep doing so.

It would be a shame if the devs maintaining the block lists stop doing what they’re doing because it’s not sustainable enough for them.

I tried to download a music video on limewire once. I was pretty computer illiterate back then and around 13 years old at the time when a friend at school showed me how to download things.

That music video turned out to be a woman being murdered at point blank range. It was ~5 seconds of my life but that video has never left my mind. It was far too early for video editing and far too ‘amateur’ to be a movie production. The way she begged for the guy to stop before he pulled the trigger, it was definitely real.

Apparently they review the second screen via the camera. Any attempts to hide/block/hack/break the second screen would result in a breach of contract, which results in a charge for the full price of the TV and extra on top for damages/breach of terms etc.

There’s a company which will give you a >40in LCD smart TV to keep, for as long as you want it, with the catch that the second screen that comes with the TV (it’s a screen that is a couple of inches tall and spans the width of the device) is on at all times and only plays ads.

There’s also a camera that actively films you and records your audio, video. It’s also on all the time.

The company makes it clear that they’re giving you a free, very well specced TV with all the amenities, and in return they’ll collect your data. It’s surprising how many people (who otherwise can’t afford a TV) said yes.

He’s not an organic tech reviewer. All of his devices are sponsored. He exists in a completely different world than the vast majority of his audience. Money is not an object for him and he promotes always having day 1 tech.

That’s true to some extent, I guess.

I’ve always thought his approach has remained broadly consistent to his roots (I’ve been subbed to him since he was much, much smaller) but yes, the products he reviews now are almost always provided to him rather than being bought by him personally. This becomes true of any channel of his size, but I’ve not seen his opinion change as a result.

He addresses the topic about bias in this short , but we can look to his phone of the year awards to assess his biases objectively. For every year since the awards began in 2014, an Android device has always won Phone of the Year. An iPhone has never won an award for Best design, Best Value or Best Big Phone since records began either.

iPhones have won best camera system since 2018, but he maintains that this is due to the superior video capabilities of iPhones, but still prefers the ‘look’ of a Pixel photo, or the hardware of a Samsung (20x zoom etc). Androids dominate every single category simply because there are so many companies developing and competing against each other to make better and better Android devices.

Marques is personally almost always rocking a Pixel or Samsung Galaxy device as his main daily driver (because he loves the customisation and the freedom that android devices give him), and has an iPhone in his other pocket for apple things. He calls out bad Android and Apple devices in equal measure, and he actively advised against buying a newer Mac because the M2 and M3 products just don’t give you enough of an upgrade over M1 to make it worthwhile.

I watch every single video he puts out and just don’t see the Apple shill thing. He has always come across as an Android fan to me, but I hear the Apple shill thing all the time.

A more sinister example was Repo Men. In that movie, the tech still worked, but people were no longer able to keep up with the extortionate payments that came with the implant.

He went up against tech industries by getting the right to repair into law.

Now that the train is fully in motion, he’s turned his attention to other shitty things that corporations are doing to inform, educate and sometimes fix.

It’s a public service and I’d rather have more of him then internet shills who sell their souls for more ad revenue (advocating for dodgy/bad products which in some cases are outright scams, inflating video lengths to 9 mins so they can get extra revenue etc).

All the activity in every zone I visit really does just feel so great. There’s no better sign a game is alive and healthy. It was totally that which hooked me.

Guild Wars 2 is great!

I’m biased because I’ve been playing it since launch, but I’ve also dabbled in the others and simply couldn’t justify a sub fee when

a) there are so many other games I’d like to play simultaneously and not feel guilty doing so b) there’s no gear treadmill! It really sucks in games like WoW where I want to check out the older content to get up to speed and just the zones were dead. Conversely, I’m doing map completion with my wife in GW2 and even the core maps had a bunch of people running around doing dynamic events and world bosses. The game feels so much more alive!

The sponge tasted great so she could’ve won it if it wasn’t for the looks!

It’s sad but she just wasn’t able to do well in any of the tasks. She was too ambitious with the toilet idea, and just missed the mark with the raspberry ganache. She was an awesome sport though!

I was the same. Reading all these Lemmy posts thinking “with my Firefox and uBlock I’m still cruising YouTube ad free” until last night when I finally saw this. Refreshing the filter list on uBlock does the trick but it sucks that it requires closing all your tabs. There were so many things I queued up that I was never going to get to, now I don’t even know what they were!

I could’ve bookmarked the tabs into a single tab folder and then restored them once I refreshed? Yeah I don’t care that much, but I do do that on occasion.
