X is where people I want to follow post unfortunately. If they posted on mastodon, I would use that more. As it stands, a lot of people and creators I want to keep up with are only on a few select platforms at the moment. Maybe that’ll change in time but I doubt anytime soon. Same situation with YouTube, I’d like to stop using that too but it’s the only place to find certain things (small example: individual magicians who sometimes perform on Penn & Teller also post their own videos on YT only.)

They’re fighting harder for non-citizens than citizens at this point it seems. Not entirely sure why.

Have to agree sadly. I searched and followed many people, still my feed is completely devoid of anything useful or interesting. I can keep digging but I feel like a 1% incremental gain from weeks of trying to set the network/profile up and giving zero results feels like a lost cause to some extent. I periodically check back, and it’s more of the same unfortunately.

GrapheneOS offers such an auto-reboot feature (18 hours by default, but the users can set it between 10 minutes and 72 hours), while the iPhone picked up something similar with iOS 18.1 (Inactivity Reboot) last year.

I was referring primarily to things that are known to be good security practices and widely known and used already. Keeping data more secure at rest goes with the “don’t trust anything or anyone” goal, and if not doing it on Android due to said trust or lack thereof, then GrapheneOS offers it too at least.

Never even crossed my mind because 'Murica and all but now I know when I use my passport to go full crazy mode ripping my bags apart to make sure. One time I checked in at the airport and had a small spring assisted knife in my laptop bag (utility purposes) but didn’t want to risk anything so I tossed in the trash before the scanners. Not worth any hassle, bought a new one instead after I got back. Knives and bullets seem like the worst case scenario in that context.

Also drastically improved overall energy levels all day for me.

All of my UK/EU coworkers that fly here for business meetings always ask me to take them to the ranges here, they LOVE it because they don’t get to do it over there nearly as easily apparently. Everyone has a great time.

It only summarized the behaviors of the mods/admins, not the reddit userbase at large. There’s probably Venn diagram between the two but not exactly 100% the same. And things like shadowbanning (listed in the response) are not actions of the users, or political ideologies of the users either, only something a mod can do.

I gave it a list of actions and behaviors by admins/mods on reddit, and asked it what the political ideologies would be considered. That’s what ChatGPT spat out. I was curious how its inference would work given a list of behaviors. Hilarious being downvoted for pasting from ChatGPT’s inferences though, I’m just the messenger.

Sad part is I find a lot of helpful random material (information about cellphone providers, accounts, all sorts of random edge cases in different domains) and still want to look at the threads, and find a lot of help that way. So I just switch to a VM that’s on a VPN just to check those. Sucks but some information doesn’t exist anywhere else.

The sad part is I still have a lot of random subs I enjoy, fringe stuff like r/OnionLovers and r/slowcooking, r/frugal… and subs like r/frugal immediately delete any comment that brings up politics in any way, so there are a few decent subs left with non-batshit insane mods but they are becoming exceedingly rare.

I am surprised I didn’t even notice that, I used to use it for when sites changed or were down. I guess there’s always internet archive sites if I were so inclined, but still sad.

Observing reddit from a distance (anon accounts, anon email address, anon VPN) it’s very clear that it’s like watching the Titanic sink or the fall of Rome at this point. It’s become a complete cesspool over the last ~5 years but progressively worse at an increasing rate each year.
