Damn it. Alt account here I come. Thanks again!

I thought they were coming at me a bit hard, they just wanted to argue with (and insult) me about anything they could. But tbh I can be a bit sensitive so I held off banning them for longer than I might have done if another user reported them for the same thing. Thank you for the reassurance that I wasn’t being reactionary because my feelings were hurt.
I don’t know what I’m missing but I can’t see options to delete/ban while browsing. I usually browse from IOS apps and open lemmy in my phone browser to mod but I used my laptop for this and still couldn’t see it. Also, I’m only given the option to ban for a set number of days, there’s no permaban option. Do I just put a high 4 digit number in?
I will definitely join the mod support you mentioned, and again, thank you for your help!
Thank you for that! I don’t understand all of those terms but I got the gist! For what my opinion is worth, I think blocking a user as a mod should only block them from communities you don’t moderate. Or moderators should be advised to create separate mod/user accounts.
Do you know what happens if someone I’ve previously blocked, then posts to a community I moderate? I was a user before I was a mod and blocked unpleasant people. Could they be making posts or commenting on threads within my communities and I’m not even seeing them? That really interferes with my ability to mod.
I haven’t modded on another site before and I was starting to wonder how people do it! When I initially tried to ban the user I was only offered the option to block them, presumably because no one had reported their comments. That prevented me from seeing the comments that needed to be deleted. I had to unblock the user, report their comments myself (from my mod account, reporting them to me) and then delete the rule breaking comments and ban them.
For the sake of transparency I’d rather not use a different account to comment on posts in my communities, but if I have to then so be it. I’ll use the same username on a different instance. I feel like I should be able to delete comments or ban subscribers while browsing posts from my mod account though. Reporting comments to myself seem ridiculously inefficient.
Thanks for your suggestion!
You have to have an instagram account in order to have a threads account - it’s how you log in. I think whatever your Instagram handle is becomes your threads handle, or it’s saved for you.
I wanted to see what it was like so I created a new Instagram account (not linked to any of my real personal info) and then a new threads account. I had a look for a couple of days and decided it was dogshit so I deleted both. I suspect an awful lot of people did exactly that.
Oh for sure. Unless the other person has lied to you about it, getting into a relationship with someone who’s married with a new baby is not ok at all. It’s just the narrative around this seems to be “Ariana the home-wrecker”, not “scumbag husband and dad destroys his entire family”. The person in a relationship who chooses to cheat will always be more liable/guilty/detestable in my book. Even if it like choosing what’s worse to step on; Lego or dog shit.
I’m no fan of adultery, but as he was the one who was married I think the blame lies primarily with him. She seems to make pretty bad life choices but she wasn’t the one with a wife and baby at home. His soon to be ex-wife has blamed Ariana for not being “a girls girl”, which again, seems to be missing the point imo. She’d been with that dude since high school and he cheated on her when their kid was less than 6 months old? What an absolute scumbag. I hope she doesn’t take him back when this relationship inevitably fizzes out.
I don’t know about the delivery driver. She was married to a guy who was a real estate agent or something like that. They got divorced in January. It was a covid relationship that didn’t last. This guy is in the theatre production of wicked that she’s staring in. He’s just filed for divorce from his high school sweetheart. They had a baby last august. Apparently Ariana and this dude were dating behind the wife’s back.
He looks like the new guy Ariana grande is dating, but surely it’s not.
I messaged the mods of two subreddits saying “hey, I’ve left this shithole and moved to lemmy. I’ve opened this community there and if you’d like to mod it I’m happy to add you. Just let me know.” No response. I don’t think you can be much fairer than that.
There’s two communities I opened that had existing but inactive communities on lemmy. Again I messaged them saying “do you plan on adding content to get this sub going? If not I’m happy take over for you. Meanwhile I’ve started an alternative. I’d prefer to combine the two communities than have competing ones, let me know what you’d prefer.” Again no response, so I created my own.
I don’t particularly want to be a mod, but the stubborn part of me doesn’t want to put all the legwork into building up a community that has an inactive/uninterested mod.
I mod a couple of communities I missed from Reddit. I’ve been stealing content from there to get the communities going (using the dystopia app so no ads and I don’t interact with Reddit at all). It’s honestly a bit jarring to read the nastiness/aggression in the comments after 5 weeks on lemmy. It’s so much nicer here, I hope we don’t lose that vibe completely as lemmy grows.
I had to make an active !confidently_incorrect community to cross post this to. It’s c/confidently_incorrect@lemmy.world if anyone’s interested.
Oh my god…
Thank you for this! I had to go my lemmy settings on my browser. I’d selected “show read posts” on all the different apps I’m trying, but it needed to be done on the actual website. It looks like it hides read posts as default.
You’re commenting in a community called “Reddit”…
I got a 3 year old post come up on “hot” and “all” yesterday. It was about 15 posts down, definitely on the first page of results as it were. The post had one comment from someone the day before, but like OP said, these posts are still showing up for someone first.
Can someone do a ELI5/outoftheloop type summary for me? Why did the mods leave? Where did they go?
Yeah, all my subs are SWF so it’s not that. I mainly use the Memmy app so I thought it was an app problem but it’s definitely a lemmy thing. It makes it pretty hard to mod if I can’t even view the posts!
I don’t. On safari iOS and chrome on MacBook I click the three dots and see this:
There’s only the option to block or report, not remove or ban. I tried it on more than one comment. Interestingly I am given ban and remove options on the Lemmios app:
These are using the same account, viewing the same thread on the same community. Maybe it’s a lemmy.world problem?
