It’s not just reading, people don’t want to mentally engage with things. There are people who would rather read movie reviews than go watch a movie and form their own opinion on it.

Engaging with material will always require something of the audience. We can try to make things as accessible and easy to understand as possible, but that doesn’t “solve” the problem, it just lowers the bar. Lowering the bar isn’t bad, but it seems like the wrong strategy for the current era. I think a better strategy is attempting to foster and enthusiastic community at a local level. Get together with friends on the weekends and mess around with stuff in person, talk about it.

I’d say the biggest problem with AI is that it’s being treated as a tool to displace workers, but there is no system in place to make sure that that “value” (I’m not convinced commercial AI has done anything valuable) created by AI is redistributed to the workers that it has displaced.

A “good” sense of humor is like a good sense of smell. In the same way a good sense of smell allows you to detect scents that others might not notice, a good sense of humor allows you to detect jokes that will make people laugh.

How do you develop a good sense of humor? Same as how you develop everything else: trial and error, practice, and feedback.

There are multiple housing problems and they’re all probably way more complicated than anyone wants to acknowledge. The highest priority “housing problem” right now imo is that there are people who don’t have a safe place to sleep at night.

In order to solve that problem you need

1. Safe housing to provide to those people
2. A system for assigning those people to the housing.

Building/acquiring housing costs money. If the government isn’t doing its job and spending money to solve this problem we need to

1. Hold them accountable through voting
2. Take matters into our own hands as a community and attempt to contribute to a local solution in whatever capacity we’re able to contribute (donations, volunteering, organizing). Once we have legitimate trustworthy organizations that are doing a good job solving the problem then we can hopefully proceed by driving more support for them.

Creating a system to assign individuals to housing is probably the more “difficult” part because there needs to be some sort of consensus on the mechanics of prioritization. I personally think we should prioritize housing for individuals and families with children, but after that I don’t know who we should serve next.
