I don’t think you need to get yourself banned. Tell them you will make the switch, and when you’ll make it. You don’t need to explain yourself any further or make excuses.

With tech it’s about convenience imo. I am privacy-concious, trying to avoid services like google, but a game’s EULA? scrolls to the bottom Accepted. Do Russians mine bitcoins on my machine? Is Unity surveilling me? Who knows.

Then of course these brands put a lot of effort into strengthening consumer loyalty. Make their stores a nice place to be, offer plans especially to minors, so they get used to their products and eco-systems early on. For example Google’s ChromeOS laptops in schools. They are cheap and… well… are cheap.

But overall, I think consumers do not realize what they are buying because many buy impulsively, or simply don’t know or care about the impact of their purchases. And to some degree, who can blame them? Who has the energy to sort through anything in the grocery store and determine which products are produced through slavery, animal cruelty, stealing the local population’s water, aren’t sourced locally etc. Because at that point, there’s probably nothing left.

The moment you try to min max the economy will fall apart. Replicate new PC parts? Cool, but now intel/AMD/Nvidia will go bankrupt, no more development. So I guess you could min-max the economical revolution. Capitalism doesn’t appear to make sense in a world with near endless access to anything.

I really hope you can open up to someone about your home life. Someone you can trust. I don’t know what faith you have, but maybe the pastor, preacher etc. could be a person of trust? I know that in my home country they are obligated to keep your confessions private under any circumstances. Or maybe there’s an institution for victims of domestic violence nearby? I know this may sound frightning at first or you might feel ashamed for one reason or another. But I hope you can take this step to get some outside help for your situation. You deserve to be safe. You deserve to be happy.

I think there is a misunderstanding here. I didn’t say that there is no value in discussing commonly suppressed or censored topics on the internet. I said that I would not want them associated with my regular account, which I believe is a good practice, especially if discussing said things could put you at risk.

I personally don’t see the value. If I’d want to talk about stuff, I don’t want my username associated with, maybe

• the internet is not the right place to have this discussion or
• I wouldn’t want it associated to my account by any means, so would most likely create a burner account.

I am just an armchair expert, but aren’t “dark empaths” already real? For example individuals with narcissistic personality disorder don’t necessarily lack empathy. Also manipulation “benefits” greatly from being empathic.

I don’t know if it’s a popular movie, but Ghibli’s Ocean Waves is one of the worst movies I’ve watched recently. Nothing really happens and jumping between the protagonists memories and present time was confusing at first. But most importantly the main romance is incredibly unlikable. I don’t know if it’s just what 90ies pop-culture expected (young) women to be like, but looking at it now she resembles someone with serious psychological issues who compensates by being manipulative and cold.

For me interstellar suffered from it’s hype. i expected a great, innovative movie and found it… okay.

About a year ago some tried to break into my flat at 2am. I was alone that night. They didn’t get in because I put the chain in front of the door. The following nights I always locked the door, left the key in the lock and turned to the rightmost position, put the chain on, and moved a shelf in front of it. And whenever my roomies are gone for a couple of days, I’ll lock the door. So yeah. You are not alone in this. Your feeling of safety has been challenged and that “tainted” feeling will linger for a while. I guess it’s our survival instinct trying to warn us that we may not be safe. But it will get better with time.

That’s true. I was in luck and there was a blacksmith in town who opens his workshop to kids on occasion or travels to job conventions and brought his tools with him. Maybe there are comparable activities/ offers near you, which I can highly recommend. Not only will you not have to worry about tools and materials, most importantly there will be a “teacher” around.
