Oh that’s a good one

I love this. I’ve started using the phrase “as God intended” as God intended (objectively wrong) recently and it brings a smile to my face every time I find a chance to do so.

“That man is doing his job as God intended” while the fucker is ignoring his entire team yelling at him to stop

I recently bought a dark barrel aged balsamic vinegar from a locally owned store. It’s pretty sweet and a little tangy.

Let’s talk about the difference between Ethics and Morals. Ethics are what you individually follow, it’s your Ethos. Morals are what a society follows.

It may be morally correct to say that “people should be allowed to do as they please” while also ethically correct to say “you shouldn’t disrespect people’s wishes.”

You’re right, that it is moral for someone to imitate art. At least, in our culture. But that’s because most people follow the ethos that they can do and take as they please. I personally hold myself to a higher standard than that, and I hope you can do the same some day.

What do you make of the use of email in the business world? You’re right that quite a bit of that has turned into instant messaging as well, ie I text my boss instead of sending them mail but it definitely feels like that’s going away a lot slower if not expanding

I’m curious, not bashing. What signs have you seen that lead you to believe email is dying?

Not sure when the last time you tried doing this is, but it’s pretty easy these days. KDE connect can pretty much handle most of the HTPC necessities. Alternatively, a debloated Onn box will do the trick quite easily

Right? It would be so much cheaper if we just used to the reinforcing steel to create thin tracks which we could put much more thermally efficient and eco-friendly wheels onto. In turn, we could carry exceptionally large loads of cargo or people over vast distances for a mere fraction of the cost (monetary) and a fraction of the cost (to the world) by creating long, highly aerodynamic vehicles capable of moving at ridiculously high speeds that would be uncontrollable for the average joe on the road.

I can’t remember if this was said to me or if I overheard it. Maybe I’m fabricating the memory entirely, but in any case, I recall a conversation where someone said almost exactly what you did in that last sentence. The reply was of course

“Well someone always gets hurt.”

“What do you mean?”

“It costs someone money to put those bathrooms in.”

Cue the “what the fuck did I just hear” alarms

I’m suggesting that disrespecting an artists wishes causes them unnecessary struggles which in turn unnecessarily makes it more difficult for them to do their work.

Do you know what the word unfettered means?

I didn’t say they needed respect to be creative. I said they needed respect to be creative unfettered.

So, to recap, your position is this:

Artists do not deserve the respect that would allow them to be creative unfettered. Gotcha.

I respect your position, and I appreciate people who are willing to share their creativity in an inspiring way like that.

However, others don’t see it as flattery. Particularly in eastern cultures, it is seen as mockery or plagiarism. You can choose to disagree about why they don’t want you to imitate their style, but you should always respect the request.

No. We’re acting as if their opinion always mattered just as much as it does now.

While your style is not, can not, and should not be your intellectual property, you should have the right to say “I don’t want you to imitate my exact style” and people should respect that.
