  • You just tanked your credit score by a lot. There are two aspects about this that matter:

Each one of those approvals required the credit card companies to pull your credit score from the major credit reporting agencies, and a lot of credit inquiries very close together will cause your score to go down. This is not so bad, as those will only weigh on you temporarily.

The worse one, however, is account age. Opening so many lines of credit has lowered your average account age by a ton, as you now have many accounts on your credit history with 0 years, so you are going to see a big drop because a lot of what makes up for a good credit score is how long you’ve maintained good credit (which means using it and paying it off on time to prove you can actually handle being lent money) and how much credit diversity you have (mortgage, auto loan, credit cards, etc.) .

The good thing is that both of these blunders will go away with time. How long it will take to get you back up to 830, well, I can’t quite say.

Like, this isn’t as bad as a bankruptcy is for your credit score, don’t get me wrong, but you’re going to need to start reading the fine print on these very carefully moving forward, because you can’t afford to keep signing deals for credit cards and not knowing exactly what the terms are. If you didn’t know what the credit limit was up front, you probably weren’t paying attention to things like APR either and that makes a big difference. Why did you feel the need to get a new credit card anyway? It sounds like you had no issues building credit before.

  • Yeah, I’ve been meaning to switch to OpenStreetMaps for a while now and this was the impetus to drop what I was doing and download it immediately. Fuck Google. So sick of this mask off tech plutocracy bullshit.

Edit: I’ve tried it a few times yesterday and today, and I like it. Works with Android Auto in my car, guidance voice isn’t annoying, directions are accurate. Only complaint is I’m not sure how to search up a business and have the app map me to the nearest location. I need to dig deeper and figure out if I just haven’t found it yet.

I would 100% drop GMaps if I could hit the directions button on a Google search and have it bring up OSM instead. Google Maps has been bugged for me for years and the maps app never gets the address from a browser search. I have to search for the business or address in the maps app itself for it to work.

  • My last picture in my saved images folder is a snip of my screen. My prompt got featured on Prequel Comic! Finally, after like, 10 years of submitting commands and I just happened to check for updates and saw my name at the top.

I kind of regret that specific prompt getting picked now though, because I thought the spider character was on an elevator traveling downwards, but I went back a page and realized that it was a camera/animation trick and they weren’t actually moving down. And yet, the artist still picked me for some reason anyway. Whatever, I’ll take it!

  • I was just talking about this with a friend the other day, but it’s really not worth it to go to these fast food places anymore even if you do like the food. I remember when, speaking to my friend, we would go to BK in high school and get a couple of “buck doubles”, because Burger King used to run a promotion where you could get two double cheeseburgers for two dollars. It was honestly a great deal. Then the shrinkflation kicked in and over time the size of the food became smaller and smaller. Then, the actual currency inflation hit, and fast food companies used the increased price of beef, chicken and other such ingredients as an excuse to gouge the hell out of their prices. Now, if I were to go to BK and get my usual fare, I would be lucky to leave paying less than $16. For like, $4 extra (not including tip) I could go to the Chili’s across the street and get an actual restaurant quality burger, and a side, and a beverage and be more than satisfied.

These fast food places are completely off their rocker if they think these prices are reasonable. Inflation is going down, so we as consumers need to stop buying their shit so they can’t justify keeping prices so insanely high. McDonalds and other fast food places are the biggest bulk purchaser of raw ingredients, so you bet that they have an insane amount of negotiating power to convince farmers and ranchers to supply the stuff they need for below market rate in bulk quantities.

If you are really craving that unique fast food flavor that you can only get at your favorite chain, let me tell you, there are YouTube channels with copycat recipes that can be made quicker and cheaper than the time it takes to drive to the nearest chain location, order, pay, get your food, leave, and come back to your house to eat it. And they taste almost the same or better in most cases because you make it yourself so you can add as much of the flavorful stuff as you want.

  • You have a point about it being expensive. It used to be really affordable, which made it a convenient option for a quick lunch or something, especially if you didn’t have any lunch prepared on a workday.

As far as the taste, I think this varies from location to location around the country. I don’t think the food is gourmet or anything, but it’s not inedible and the taste of junk food really does set off all the feel-good chemicals in my brain.

I find that Burger King’s biggest flaw is that there’s zero consistency across their franchise locations. This in in stark contrast to McDonald’s franchises that are really well standardized. I can go to one BK location and the food will be shit, and the next will taste pretty good. Even the same location can vary depending on the day of the week and whose shift it is. It sucks, because I am in the minority group of people that think people are sleeping on BK’s french fries - they are leagues better than the competition when made correctly, but I get such inconsistent results whenever I go that I honestly can’t recommend that anybody try them over an alternative with a more consistent quality. When they are made right, they are golden, crispy, fluffy, and somewhat salty. But sometimes they are undercooked so they aren’t golden brown and crispy on the outside, or they are overcooked so they aren’t fluffy on the inside, or they don’t have any seasoning so they taste bland.

Anyway, I used to go there regularly, but I’m cutting down on calorie-loaded foods and so I will only get to go to get fast food once in a while, and I sure as hell don’t waste it on a trip to BK unless I really have a craving for it or someone else I’m hanging out with wants to go there specifically. The cost just doesn’t justify the quality you get, even when it does turn out really good.

  • Angel hair is probably my most disliked. It just tastes terrible and gets overcooked so easily. I also dislike ditalini but not nearly as much since that usually only goes in like minestrone soup and it might just be that I’m not a fan of minestrone.

For the best pasta shapes, look no further than Buccatini (the objectively better spaghetti), cellentani (idk it’s just fun), and gemelli (perfect texture for lightly sauced dishes).

I used to hate farfalle, but I’m okay with that one now. We’ve made our peace. It’s another example of a pasta shape that I only had in one particular dish that I didn’t care for and I formed a negative association as a result.

  • I can imagine the raucous laughter behind me as I exit the bank, fist clenched in anger and face red with embarrassment, after explaining to the loan officer that I needed $20m to purchase an LNG tanker but also that I have never been a sea captain, don’t know anything about natural gasses, and have no supply chain for acquiring or selling the product that said tanker is meant to distribute.

Nah, I’m good. I’ll stay poor.

  • Yes, every family I’ve ever known has had a drawer with bulky oversized kitchen utensils and gadgets. The harder you try to organize these things, the more you will realize that you’d just end up with an entire drawer taken up by a single pizza cutter, garlic press, or zester. Theoretically, if you had enough storage space in your kitchen you could do that, but these things are used so infrequently that they either get shoved into one drawer which fully takes up that one space with disorganized chaos, or placed in a receptacle of some sort to sit on the countertop for when you need it, which is ugly and takes up then takes up the counter space instead.

First they tried “But he was rich!” And that didn’t stick, so now they’re going back to the old political divisiveness play book with “but he was a right-winger!”.

Don’t fall for it. The powers that be desperately want public opinion to turn on this guy.
