It’s amazing how “righteous fury” people seem to get over folks protesting sporting events because the fucking planet is on fire.
“Oh but couldn’t they be more calm and quiet about it, I want to watch the race!”

Flip, I’ve been cutting down a willow in my front yard annually. Each year it seems to grow back about twice as fast. I enjoy our little game.
It’s astounding how badly apparently a lot of people are failing to read here.
To be very slightly fair I suppose the sentence fragmentation doesn’t help? It should read “a dishonest premise: that billionaires” but, like, the wording wouldn’t change. It’s very clear and not at all ambiguous that the reviewer considers the book’s premise dishonest.
That question isn’t the best way to frame it, because yeah… 2x “enough” is pretty reasonable. That’s still well within the high returns of happiness phase.
Do you need 1000x enough, though? Or 1000x that? I’d love a high end espresso maker, or a nicer car, or to be able to afford to take more time off, but there comes a point where more is just pointless.
Jeez you seem like you have some personal vendetta against this lab
All I’ve got to offer are unionisation pamphlets and a brick.
Won’t someone please think of the children?!
True, but not new. It’s been this since before “fight terror” in fact.
Ah yes, as we know mold is flavourless and odourless. There was simply no way to tell, and this story is super plausible.
Wouldn’t work for most of my use cases but a good point nonetheless
I highly doubt Reddit is doing it intentionally. You’re talking to people who have chosen not to switch platforms, and so they’re giving you their rationalisations for it. The conspiracy theories aren’t necessary to explain the behaviour, people will find all sorts of excuses for resistance to change.
I use Lemmy to talk to strangers, but I use discord to talk to specific people. Unless I can convince the vast majority of them to switch to matrix it doesn’t matter how much I prefer the foss service, it’s useless to me. I still have an account, sure, but I don’t use discord out of laziness. I use it because matrix literally can’t provide that service.
I think that’s kind of a weird way to see it. For the most part the fediverse will likely be a large group of general purpose instances that eschew a few assholes on the fringes.
Right now we’re facing issues because people are turning up their noses at the idea of wanting to eschew assholes on the fringes.
Generally true but I will say, there’s a concerning amount of astroturfing going around on eg. sh.itjust.works about how iMporTanT it iS to let tHe hatErs sPeaK. The place seems to be going full ‘nazi bar’ very quickly. It doesn’t matter how tankie the original devs are, we still need to be wary of our spaces. If there’s one thing the alt right has proven effective at out of all their massive incompetences, it’s turning social spaces online into shit holes.
Don’t you compare windows to that time honoured and helpful software. WinRAR knows when to quit, and is free
