  • Even if Deepseek didn’t explicitly train on ChatGPT output, there’s so much of it pasted across the internet that just by scraping the web, Deepseek would’ve already faced that issue.

This distilling capability is super powerful. If any cutting-edge model can simply be distilled, there is literally no moat around AI. If OpenAI comes out with GPT-infinity, in a few months everyone else will just distill out an equivalent model. That means AI costs (and profits!) should drop to zero over time due to competition.

This matches both Jeremy Rifkin’s concept of zero marginal cost, and Marx’s predictions of the falling rate of profit.

  • The House of the Spirits has characters that fit this description to a tee. The book was written by Isabel Allende, a cousin of Salvador Allende, and is a stylized retelling of life through the transition in Chilean politics post-colonialism through Salvador Allende to Pinochet.

The book ends with the character and narrator Alba saying that, despite previously organizing for Allende’s socialist party, and getting raped by the military coup forces after, she will not seek vengeance on those who have injured her, choosing to believe in the hope that one day the human cycle of hate and revenge will be broken.

Yes, let me lie down and let myself get run over by capitalists because then maybe they won’t also run over my children.

Because of her simplistic writing on ‘cycle of violence bad’ while ignoring Marxist analysis, Isabel Allende seems to be a darling in liberal circles. Obama gave her a Presidential Medal of Freedom.

  • This is a quote from the play The Fever by Wallace Shawn. The play depicts a person who becomes sick while struggling to find a morally consistent way to live when faced with injustice, and harshly criticizes the United States’ record in supporting the murder of communists and socialists. The play ends by saying that only blood spilled on their doorsteps will bring the complacent rich to change their selfish ways (which the NYT didn’t like for being too radical).

Wallace Shawn is a socialist, Jewish actor and playwright who has:

    • supported whistleblower Chelsea Manning
    • worked as a speaker for Jewish Voice for Peace in October 2023 as an anti-Zionist Jew
    • narrated a political ad in April 2024 denouncing AIPAC influence
