I haven’t read any of his books, though I have read everything he’s posted online (that I’m aware of). My issue isn’t necessarily with his methodology so much as his motivated reasoning—though you’re completely right that liberal historians don’t do any better, so maybe I should be more charitable.

I usually like ProleWiki but I’m not sure I can get behind this article. They leave out that Soviet calibers were found in the bodies, don’t mention the testimony of Dmitry Tokarev, and cite Grover Furr, who is a meme for obvious reasons. It comes off as grasping at straws.

It’s an imperialist stance to support Hamas against Israel? Do you understand what critical support means?

I am a leftist. Hamas is not leftist. I cannot unconditionally support them based on that by definition. Hamas opposes women’s rights, for example—do you? If you do not, then your support is critical.

  • I’m a communist. I support state atheism and women’s rights, neither of which Hamas support. As I have stated several times, I hope Hamas is victorious in their battle against Israel, but I also hope that a different faction is successful against Hamas after the fighting ends and Israel is destroyed.

Unless you are opposed to women’s rights and secularization, I don’t see how your support for Hamas can ever pass beyond critical.

I think (or perhaps just hope) that after Israel’s targeted assassinations of the PLO end, they’ll be able to regain some of the support that was artificially decreased by Israel.

I don’t support Fatah, and I acknowledge that Fatah is the largest portion of the PLO, but the PFLP is second largest and they have the only correct opinion on the process towards peace.

I’m not sure what you want. We have Israel admitting to it on tape.

Are you aware that the Muslim Brotherhood, which later became Hamas, supported the Black September massacre of Palestinians in opposition to the Jordanian monarchy? That they attacked opposition politicians, most of whom were leftists? Are you aware they campaigned on a platform of anti-communism and the restriction of women’s rights?

Again, I’m all for Hamas in their struggle against Israel, but I’m confused at your uncritical support. They’re not our friends. We are not Islamists, and obviously we are not anticommunists.
