If by “western” you mean “everything west of China”, then the Shahnameh.
If you mean “European/Mediterranean”, then Homer.
If you specifically mean “western Europe”, then yeah—probably Shakespeare.

Yeah, jpeg converts to lab (or something similar, I think). But the dimensions are the same: one channel for lightness, and then a number of channels one less than the total number of sampled frequencies to capture the rest of the color space.
Spectral JPEG XL utilizes a technique used with human-visible images, a math trick called a discrete cosine transform (DCT), to make these massive files smaller […] it then applies a weighting step, dividing higher-frequency spectral coefficients by the overall brightness (the DC component), allowing less important data to be compressed more aggressively.
This all sounds like standard jpeg compression. Is it just jpeg with extra channels?
So they’re adding phone capabilities to Tamagotchi?

Start a website like geoguesser, where you post everything you remember and have people compete to find and save the victim.
The most common theories of reincarnation hold that it is punishment for misdeeds in past lives.
I think there should be a feature wherein every new community can designate a parent community and a minimum traffic threshhold; and if traffic falls below the threshold, posts and subscriptions are folded into the parent community until traffic picks up again.
Right—I was just thinking that limiting or scaling downvotes based on quantity rather than upvote/downvote ratio would address the criticism that it could be gamed with fake upvotes.
As long as you don’t observe it.
Hmm… as an alternative, what if the weight of a given user’s downvotes on a given server were divided by the number of downvotes that user made over the last (say) week?
So for instance the downvotes of a user who downvotes a hundred posts will have a tenth the weight of a user who downvotes ten posts.
If anyone’s interested in adding similar functionality to their own MediaWiki installation, you can use the ModernTimeline and SemanticMW extensions without the need for an AI to parse the pages for dates.
The optimist in me says they’re doing this to avoid piracy.
Won’t pirates just buy their source copies on a different platform, so now Amazon loses the original sale as well?

Nice try, enemy time travel team checking the fediverse archives a hundred years from now.
Break it into overlapping chunks, encode it as nucleic acid base pairs, and splice it into the genomes of a bunch of soil bacteria.
Although a chessboard has only 64 squares, there are 1040 possible legal chess moves and between 10111 to 10123 total possible moves — which is more than the total number of atoms in the universe.
You’d think a website called “LiveScience” would be able to use exponents in article copy correctly. (Or at least have reviewers who know that there are more atoms in the universe than there are in a small protein molecule.)
Great—let’s test it on politicians and law enforcement first.
