honestly idk why people say the arch install is hard. it takes 30mins max. instructions are fantastic.
in my defense, Gentoo was harder to install than arch…
honestly I loved Debian stable. unfortunately I got new hardware, and Debian stable didn’t support it. I hacked by on a combination of testing and backports for a bit. but it finally got too much and I made the switch…
oh lol. so I installed Gentoo in 2007 or so on an AMD K6. I set the architecture to 686. Cause it’s a K6 right?
build failed after a day of compiling. tried again and the build failed again. finally I read the docs and there’s an innocuous like saying all K6s are 586.
What a waste. switched to Debian after some 3y of Gentoo. switched to arch after 10y of Debian. been on arch 6y now…

somehow I trust bytwdance a lot more than trump backed companies…
moot point though, cause I’m never on tiktok
how did she get this idea into her head in the first place?
one of the worst life ruining decisions a student can make is to rack up student debt, with no means to pay it off after graduation.
look at graduation statistics if they publish it. what is the employment rate and median salary of graduates?
Is the total cost comparable to the median starting salary?
if taking sense into ur daughter isn’t possible, then maybe reason with ur husband based on finances?

my oldest regularly used computer is a 15 year old desktop I use as a backup server at home. my newest is a 4y old laptop. i repurposed 8y old laptop for my kids.
hardware now is so good you don’t need to upgrade much…

thanks for this. I’ve been using xournal since 2006, and switched to xournal++ maybe 7 or 8 years ago. didn’t think I would ever switch again. but rnote looks like it’s good enough for me to make the switch.
strong defaults. most things did what I wanted without me having to configure anything. i configured xournal++ a lot
invert brightness!! i basically start a new file everytime I had to switch from dark to light with xournal++. with rnote I can just hit the invert colors button…
better handwry, zoom, drag, interface

codeberg is owned by a nonprofit. highly recommend it

the only social media I have is Lemmy and mastodon. I prefer Lemmy to mastodon. (I also have kbin)
I quit Facebook, Reddit, Twitter etc. because of content manipulation. They suppress posts against their agenda and promote those for their agenda. I always knew this, but when I realized I was being influenced, I deleted my accounts and quit.
Only things I’ll use now are open source, decentralized, and non profit owned. (I’ll gladly donate)

pdftk can split it into pages, and then recombine the pages. not sure how to automatically remove an element from each page unfortunately.

any chance you can build me a bot that pretends to be a rich Prince that wants to give me a lot of money… but asks me to pay a small collection fee first?
asking cause u posted in programerhumor

lol. i used Gentoo for 5 years or so. it’s the only distribution I don’t recommend.
it assumes you have hours of CPU time to waste, and hours of your time to dispatch-config afterwords.
do Debian or arch.
all comments here unanimously say don’t do it!

you need the job. take it, and do it well like the client wants. invest time in developing options so that you won’t have to take this job again.
your personal survival comes first
i use syncthing to mirror pics on my computers and rsync to back them up on a different computer. (i use raid on my backup server)
