I think it’s totally fair for them to glorify their founding fathers. Every modern state glorifies it’s founders in such a way, and it reflects on the principles of the country as well. Modern China idolizes Mao, modern Russia idolizes Lenin/Stalin, modern Korea idolizes Kim Il Sung, India with Gandhi, the Philippines with Jose Rizal. Naturally the US glorifies a handful of elitist genocidal slavers, and I think it reflects on the country it’s always been.

Mt Rushmore is absolutely ridiculous. Americans can use the phrase “cult of personality” to refer to other countries after they’ve chiseled off those ugly mugs and returned Six Grandfathers to something resembling its natural state.

Mt Rushmore is also comically evil. It is a holy site of the natives. The local inhabitants got exterminated/ethnically cleansed after the US government set prices for their skalps. Then they approved to creation of that monument, done by a KKK member. And the icing on the shitfest: The entire area was designated a national park, to keep it save from any return claim by the natives.

They genocided hundreds of tribes and peoples, on a much larger scale than the holocaust, and then made monuments to brag about it. Still haven’t managed to return any stolen land to the survivors.

but Oh no the DPRK are the indoctrinated ones!

      Death to amerikkka

The first thing to show them is the wikipedia article on north korea media coverage.

It should cause a bit of a cognitive dissonance.

      https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Disinformation_in_media_coverage_of_North_Korea

Here, I even went fishing for the link to help.

Then, there are a lot of tourists who took pictures of north Korea and brought them back.

      They are telling.

      https://www.ericlafforgue.com/gallery/Countries/North Korea

I particularly like eric lafforgue because he took illegal pictures and was simply banned, destroying the myth of getting killed/maimed/whatevered from disrespecting the rules.

The last step is to show theses articlea from what happens daily in South Korea, which most people think is an actual country and not an american subsidiary.

      https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Poverty_in_South_Korea

      https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Economic_inequality_in_South_Korea

And then compare Chaebols with the Kims

      https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Chaebol

The conclusion after that is that both Korea are under duress, for completly different reasons.

One is limited in ressources and isolated, with a lot of poweful enemies and few allies.

The other is a feodal state controlled by corporatism and outside interests…

        Thanks comrade rat-salute-2

I still dont think theyll be receptive to it (it would have to take multiple conversations and alot time to change one’s preconceived notions) but at least i can be unapolagetic whenever the topic comes up.

What I did is just discord like the first article with a Huh, I didn’t know that to a friend, with no other context.

The the next one, Huh, look what I found… ect, ect. . Now they feel north korea is more than meet the eyes

The one piece of advice that always holds up when trying to inform and convert those around us is simply to hit them where they live. AES just isn’t that, not to mention they’ve probably been propagandised so much since birth they think China, DPR Korea etc are hellholes in the same way they think the earth revolves around the sun. It takes a lot of effort on their part to realise just because the circle peg goes in the square hole doesn’t mean that’s where it belongs.

I sympathise with you. I’ve got old school militant socialists spewing BBC garbage about AES. Best I’ve managed with those old farts is to get them to think we agreed on a middle ground when they just misunderstood (even plain old misheard) something I said and call it a day. It’s quite exhausting.
